Things I Miss: [Nov. 14th, 2006|12:56 pm]

[ambiance |"Here At The Western World" (Thanks, Kelsey!)]

* being able to keep food down for more than 10 minutes; not trembling with chills all the damn time like an epileptic teacup chihuahua

* when Dennis Miller was still funny

* the era when my family hung out together a lot more, and all those wild family Thanksgivings with people in every damn corner of Marty's house, and the cousins in the basement playing drinking games, and the uncles in the backyard smoking cigars and cigarettes and weed, and about a million children running around everywhere

* "The Bob and Tom Show"

* remember those funky old Orange Julius places in the mall that had the orange, green, and brown decor and all those plastic oranges hanging from the ceiling?

* * *

So...is it my imagination, or is "Bad to the Bone" by George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers kind of a pervy song?

Listen up: "On the day I was born, the nurses all gathered 'round / And they gazed in wide wonder, at the joy they had found."

Um...EW? I'm just sayin': sounds effing creepy to me. What, were the nurses all supposed to be thinking that little George was going to sex them wild right after his umbilical cord got cut? Egomaniacal dickweed...

Blarf. I'm going back to bed.

[ambiance |James Taylor - "I Will Follow"]

* Cereal. Remember those Shredded Wheat that had the real strawberry filling inside? Oh, and Apple Raisin Crisp?

* Adult Swim On Demand. I now have to stay up until midnight to watch "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" and "Sealab"?!? Not gonna happen, mofo. If I'm up that late, the evening had better be revolving around sex and/or booze, not cartoons.

* Arthur. Erin and I were talking about him the other night, and we both miss him. Whither the wayward Arthur? (D.C., probably, but he hasn't deigned to inform me of that himself. Stoopit men...)

* Wyler's chicken bouillon. It's every dieter's best friend, and you can't get it around here for love nor money.

* New Mexico. I think it's way past time for me to get back down to Santa Fe, visit the galleries in Taos, go hiking in the mountains, and make my requisite pilgrimage to Chimayo.

* Tod. Oh, I know, we're "friends plus" and all that, but it's still just weird not ending every phone conversation with a couple of "I love you"s on either end.

* * *

On a related note, someone told me (sternly) the other day, "You know, he'd better be worth all of this crap that you're putting yourself through!" And I said without thinking, "If we never have one more day together, it'll still all be worth it."

So I have my answer. But it's not over; it can't be. To quote my beloved James, I will follow.

I will stand and fight.
